Publisher’s Preface. This book conveys the experience of more than 500 men of great wealth, who began at scratch, with nothing to give in return for riches except thoughts, ideas, and organized plans. Here you have the entire philosophy of money-making, just as it was organized from the actual achievements of the most successful men known to the American people during the past fifty years. It describes what to do, also, how to do it! It presents complete instructions on how to sell your personal services. It provides you with a perfect system of self-analysis that will readily disclose what has been standing between you and “the big money” in the past. It describes the famous Andrew Carnegie formula of personal achievement by which he accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars for himself and made no fewer than a score of millionaires of men to whom he taught his secret. Perhaps you do not need all that is to be found in the book — no one of the 500 men from whose experiences it was written did — but you may need one idea, plan, or suggestion to start you toward your goal. Somewhere in the book you will find this needed stimulus. The book was inspired by Andrew Carnegie, after he had made his millions and retired. It was written by the man to whom Carnegie disclosed the astounding secret of his riches — the same man to whom the 500 wealthy men revealed the source of their riches. In this volume will be found the thirteen principles of money-making essential to every person who accumulates sufficient money to guarantee financial independence. It is estimated that the research which went into the preparation, before the book was written, or could be written — research covering more than twenty-five years of continuous effort — could not be duplicated at a cost of less than $100,000.00. Moreover, the knowledge contained in the book never can be duplicated, at any cost, for the reason that more than half of the 500 men who supplied the information it brings have passed on. Riches cannot always be measured in money ! ...
Hill Napoleon - Stone William Clement - Success through a positive mental attitudeurn:md5:2cc84a6e0ac836f3cd6f5adbb9bd26ba2013-09-07T01:20:00+01:002023-04-24T13:38:46+01:00balderHill NapoleonCroissance personnelle

Preface. The great Danish philosopher and religious thinker, Soren Kierkegaard, once wrote, "It is the sign of a good book when the book reads you." You hold in your hands such a book — one that has not only become a classic in the self-help field, but also has that rare ability to relate to your problems, sympathize with them, and then advise you on their solutions as a wise old friend would. Still, I must warn you. Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude will do nothing for you. If you truly wish to change your life for the better, and are willing to pay a price in time and thinking and effort to reach your goals — and if you're not kidding yourself — then you hold in your hands a diamond plucked from a beach of pebbles, a road map to a better future, a valuable blueprint that will enable you to completely restructure your future. I speak from experience. Many years ago, through my own stupidities and faults, I lost everything that was precious to me — my family, my home and my job. Nearly penniless, and with no guidance, I began to wander the country, searching for myself and for some answers that would make my life bearable. I spent much time in public libraries because they were free — and warm. I read everything from Plato to Peale, seeking that one message that would explain to me where I had gone wrong — and what I could do to salvage the remainder of my life. I finally found my answer in W. Clement Stone's and Napoleon Hill's Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude. I have employed the simple techniques and methods found in this classic for more than fifteen years, and they have provided me with riches and happiness far beyond anything I deserve. From a penniless vagrant without a single root, I eventually became the president of two corporations and the executive editor of the finest magazine of its kind in the world, Success Unlimited. I also wrote six books, and one of them, The Greatest Salesman in the World, has now become the best-selling book for salespeople of all time; it has been translated into fourteen languages and has sold more than three million copies. None of these things would have been accomplished without the daily application of the principles of success and living that I found in Stone's and Hill's classic. If I could accomplish what I did starting from ground zero, just think what you can do with all you have going for you already. We live in a strange and fast-moving world; each day a new false prophet arises preaching his own brand of happiness and success attainment. Like hula hoops and pet rocks they will all disappear as quickly as they appeared, and when the fog lifts, the truth of Stone's and Hill's book will still be changing the lives of thousands yet unborn. Do you really want to change your life for the better? If you do, Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude can be the luckiest thing that has ever happened to you. Read it. Study it. Read it again. Then get into action. It's all very simple, really, if you make up your mind to work at it. And wonderful things will begin happening to you. I should know. Foreword. Perhaps you are like millions the world over who have read Napoleon Hill’s writings and have profited from them. Whether you are a follower of Hill’s teaching or this is your first encounter with his writing, you will benefit from these lessons on human potential. The sources of the book you have in your hands are magazines Hill published over eighty years ago. Hill’s Golden Rule Magazine and Hill’s Magazine were published for several years before his first book appeared. Hill’s lessons are a series of writings on human potential. The remote mountains of Wise County, Virginia, where Hill was born in 1883, did not provide a lot of opportunities for a boy being raised in poverty. Hill’s mother died when he was ten years old, and his father married again a year later. Napoleon’s new stepmother was to be a blessing to the young boy. Martha was a young widow who was educated, the daughter of a doctor; she took a liking to her highly energized stepson, who was often involved in mischievous deeds. The newest member of the Hill household was a source of encouragement that lasted a lifetime. Later in life, Hill credited his stepmother in a manner similar to the way Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth President of the United States, credited his, when he once remarked that ‘‘whatever I am or ever aspire to be I owe to that dear woman.’’ By the age of thirteen, with the help of his stepmother, he had traded a pistol for a typewriter. A series of articles would encourage his pursuit of a profession in writing. After two years of high school, Hill enrolled in a business school, and upon completion sought a job with Rufus Ayres, who had been Attorney General of the State of Virginia, an officer in the Confederacy, and at one time a candidate for the United States Senate. General Ayres was into banking, lumber, and coal mining, and Hill thought of him as the richest man in the mountains. Suddenly attracted to the law profession, however, Hill convinced his brother Vivian to apply with him to Georgetown Law School; Napoleon would work as a writer and pay both of their ways. Both enrolled at Georgetown Law School, and Vivian graduated but Napoleon was detoured, obtaining a job with Bob Taylor’s Magazine, which was owned by Robert Taylor, a United States Senator from Tennessee. Hill’s assignments were success stories, including a story on the growth of Mobile, Alabama, as a seaport. When he was sent to interview Andrew Carnegie at his 45-room mansion, what was scheduled to be a short interview lasted three days. Carnegie challenged him to interview the successful and develop a philosophy of success, which Hill would then teach to others. Hill’s life was changed drastically, and his lifelong adventure was to interview successful people in his study of why some were successful and so many others were not. Carnegie’s introduction put the young Hill in contact with Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, George Eastman, John D. Rockefeller, and other noted people of the time. Hill’s study of the success principles took twenty years with over five hundred interviews before he wrote his first book. Hill lived to be 87 years old and during his lifetime developed the philosophy of success principles that are as relevant today as when he studied and recorded his findings in his books. Hill’s first title was actually an eight-volume set called The Law of Success, published in 1928. He began to receive royalties of $2,000 to $3,000 per month, such a huge sum that he purchased a Rolls-Royce for a visit up Guest River in the mountains of Wise County, Virginia, where he had spent his childhood. Hill wrote a small book called The Magic Ladder to Success, and while it appeared to be a condensed version of The Law of Success, it added a section called ‘‘Forty Unique Ideas’’ for making money. Among Hill’s ideas were automatic gas filling stations at which motorists could serve themselves either day or night, keyless locks to prevent theft, and fountain drinks made of vegetables served fresh without preservatives. Remember, this was in 1930; the list demonstrates what a visionary Hill was. Further evidence that Hill was a visionary is found in the fact that so much of the self-help material written today is simply a version of what Hill studied and wrote about over 80 years ago. Today a number of books have been written about the law of attraction as if it is some newly discovered principle that will ensure success. Hill wrote about this ‘‘new’’ principle in the March 1919 issue of Hill’s Golden Rule Magazine, which is included in Lesson #4: The Law of Retaliation. Today there are stacks and stacks of books that reference one or more of Hill’s works, and he is no doubt quoted more than any other motivational writer or speaker who ever lived. These quotes are sometimes used verbatim and at other times with slight changes. In 1937, Hill wrote his most famous book, Think and Grow Rich, which sold out three times the year it was published at $2.50 a copy in the middle of the Great Depression, and that was without mass advertising that exists today. Think and Grow Rich has sold over sixty million copies worldwide and still sells about one million copies per year. Today a best seller is usually classified as a book that sells a hundred thousand copies. All of Hill’s books have sold more than that, and most exceed a million copies. The more popular books today have what publishers refer to as a shelf life of one to two years (the length of time the book is in demand and remains in stock at major bookstores). Hill’s The Law of Success has been in continuous publication since 1928, Think and Grow Rich since 1937, Master Key to Riches since 1945, Success Through a Positive Mental Attitude since 1960, Grow Rich with Peace of Mind since 1967, and You Can Work Your Own Miracles since 1971. In other words, Hill’s books sell better today than when he first wrote them. Don M. OUTWITTING THE DEVIL is the most profound book I have ever read. First, I was incredibly honored when Don Green, CEO of the Napoleon Hill Foundation, trusted me enough to ask me to become involved in this project. And then I read the manuscript ! I couldn't sleep for a week. Written on a manual typewriter in 1938 by the Master himself, Napoleon Hill, this manuscript had been locked away and hidden by Hill's family for seventy-two years. Why? Because they were frightened by the response it would invoke. Hill's courage in revealing the Devil's work around each of us every day, in our churches, our schools, and our politics, threatened the very core of society as it was known at the time. When asked why the family had hidden the manuscript, Don Green recites the following inside story: It was the objections of Hill's wife, Annie Lou. She was secretary to Dr. William Plumer Jacobs, president of Presbyterian College in Clinton, South Carolina. Jacobs was also owner of Jacobs Press and a public counselor to a group of South Carolina textile firms. Jacobs hired Hill to come to Clinton to work for him, and Annie Lou did not want the book published because of the role of the Devil. She feared the response ftom organized religion (and maybe for Hill's job). Even though Hill died in 1970, Annie Lou did not die until 1984. Upon Annie Lou's death, the manuscript came into the possession of Dr. Charlie Johnson, then the president of the Napoleon Hill Foundation. Charlie was the nephew of Annie Lou Hill. Charlie's wife, Frankie, knew and shared Annie Lou's feelings. Frankie told Charlie that she did not want the article published while she was alive either. Charlie's wife passed away a couple of years ago and Charlie finally gave me the manuscript, bound in red leather and embossed with the letters Outwitting the Devil in gold on the cover. The Foundation believes the manuscript has a powerful message that needs to be shared. Mter speaking with Don, I was overcome with a powerful realization. This book, even though written in 1938, was actually meant to be published today ... meant to rock our society today! It was intended to provide answers during this uncertain economic and spiritual time. It provides the keys for each of us to outwit the Devil in our own lives. It shows us how to chart a course for success and to add value to the world around us through the process. Just as Think and Grow Rich helped us recover and succeed after the Great Depression, Outwitting the Devil was written to help each of us recover and succeed today! You may ask if Hill believes his conversation with the Devil was real, or was it merely imaginary? The choice is yours. But I also asked Don Green about Hill's thoughts in his other writings to see if we could get another look inside Hill's head. Don's response was as follows: The use of imaginary conversations was not new to Hill. In 1953, Hill published How to Raise Your Own Salary, which was written as a conversation between Hill and Carnegie. Hill had actually interviewed Carnegie in 1908 and Carnegie died in 1919, well before its publication. This was not the first time Hill used imaginary meetings to convey what he was writing about. In Think and Grow Rich, Hill, writing about the sixth sense, wrote about his imaginary council meeting with the nine men whose lifeworks had been the most impressive to Hill. These nine imaginary council members were Emerson, Paine, Edison, Darwin, Lincoln, Burbank, Napoleon, Ford, and Carnegie. Hill wrote in Think and Grow Rich that during his meetings with his "Invisible Counselors" he found his mind most receptive to ideas, thoughts, and knowledge that reached him during these times when his sixth sense was activated. Outwitting the Devil was by no means his first time to write about religion. In fact, after he published Law of Success in 1928, he received letters of criticism about his stance on schools and religion. In Think and Grow Rich, in the chapter titled "The Six Ghosts of Fear," Hill wrote that fear of death, in the majority of cases, could be charged to religious fanaticism. Hill had much to say about religious leaders in this section of his classic best seller. Hill had much to say about religion even in his Hill's Golden Rule Magazine. He wrote an article, "A Suggestion to Ministers of the Gospel," in which he admonished church leaders to teach their followers to practice harmony among each other. So the choice is yours. Did Hill actually talk to the Devil or is this a parable created to reach and touch your heart? Hill's unique style will pull you in and move you in ways you never thought possible. The words in this book are Hill's own. Since the original manuscript was quite lengthy, I edited with careful precision to preserve the profound impact of his message. I have kept his original language in place even when modern grammar may have dictated adjustments. In an effort to highlight certain issues, bring clarity to his words, and show how his predictions have become realities, I have added my thoughts throughout the manuscript in a different type style. This allows you to choose to read the book either with my comments or without. Please enjoy this powerful book and share it with your friends and family. The power in Hill's words can and will change your life. ...
Hill Napoleon - Réfléchissez et devenez richeurn:md5:afabfc05ab39a66559f73e18d6e21dac2012-08-12T01:05:00+01:002023-04-24T13:39:06+01:00balderHill NapoleonCroissance personnelle

This special edition of Think and Grow Rich is a book that is meant to be worked in. It is designed specifically so you can make notes in the margins and we have intentionally had the type set so that the lines are far enough apart to make it easy for you to underline the ideas and phrases that catch your attention. When an idea flashes into your mind, when you suddenly "get it," the concept always seems so clear that you're sure you'll be able to remember it later. However, when something comes to you like that, it's usually because a number of bits and pieces have suddenly fallen into place in just the right way. Unfortunately, the feeling of the moment that made the idea happen is hard to hold on to ... and even harder to recall. Insights that flash into your consciousness can fade quickly if you dont write down something to capture that fleeting feeling of "ahah!" The editors of this edition strongly urge you to use the spaces provided to write down key words and reminders that you can use later to trigger your memory. Our hope is that you will make this your own personalized version of Think and Grow Rich. When you have finished working your way through this book it should be filled with notes to yourself. it should point out the passages you find particularly relevant to your life, and it should be a record of your personal progress that you can go back and refer to at those times when you can't quite recall what it was that got you so motivated and inspired. ...
Hill Napoleon - Think & Grow Rich Workbookurn:md5:8acf3edf4db58084b6a3e401a2c8ad942012-06-03T13:22:00+01:002023-04-24T13:39:23+01:00balderHill NapoleonCroissance personnelle

HOW TO USE THIS WORKBOOK. Napoleon Hill is quoted as saying, "You can't really get Think and Grow Rich by reading it just once. There is just as much written between the lines as there is written in the lines themselves." This workbook is designed to guide you through Think and Grow Rich and explain it so clearly that by the time you come to the last page you will know the book and understand it better than devoted students who have read it many times over. Following the format of the book, the workbook breaks down each of Napoleon Hill's principles of success, fills in the background, takes you step-by-step through his philosophical arguments, and explains how and why Hill arrived at his theories. In addition to elaborating on the information in Hill's text, the workbook also draws upon numerous outside sources to present you with related material, updated research, and new examples. The editors of this workbook take each chapter, analyze it, explain the subtleties, point out where people often go wrong, and do everything possible to make sure that the reader "gets" every one of the ideas Napoleon Hill was trying to convey-including those that Hill says are hiding between the lines. The result is a highly practical program of commentaries, exercises, questionnaires, and intellectual tools created specifically to make Think and Grow Rich the most important book you have ever read. ...
Hill Napoleon - Think & Grow Rich Gold Standard Collector's editionurn:md5:0cab3c74b71337dc6522d0c60758154a2012-06-03T13:18:00+01:002023-04-24T13:39:30+01:00balderHill NapoleonCroissance personnelle

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE GETTING STARTED. Think and Grow Rich is the best-selling success book in the history of the publishing industry. It is said that Napoleon Hill has made more millionaires than any other person, and variations on his philosophy are found in the work of every modern self-improvement author and motivational speaker. Why? Because it works. It is not tied to any particular time or place, and it can be used by anyone, no matter who you are, what your age, occupation, or financial circumstances. THE MOST COMPLETE EDITION EVER PUBLISHED Starting with the complete text from the original first publication, this Gold Standard Edition presents not only the entire classic bestseller but also includes an extensive biography of Napoleon Hill, and is augmented with annotations and commentaries to provide context, perspective, and insight. In creating this expanded edition, Napoleon Hill’s words are presented exactly as he wrote them, and all additional information is clearly set off and identified as supplemental to the original text. When it is desirable for readers to know certain historical or biographical information, the editors have inserted those details within the chapter, clearly indicated to be commentaries. In this way the relevant material can be read in place and learned in context. A COMPLETE BIOGRAPHY OF NAPOLEON HILL In addition to the historical and biographical information that has been interwoven into the chapters of Think and Grow Rich, a much more detailed account of the people and events that shaped Napoleon Hill’s life is provided in a biography that has been written for this edition and included as chapter 18, following the final chapter of Think and Grow Rich. HOW IT ALL GOT STARTED Think and Grow Rich had its beginning in 1908 when Napoleon Hill met Andrew Carnegie, one of the richest and most successful men who ever lived. Carnegie proposed to introduce Hill to America’s leaders in business, government, science, and the arts, if Hill would agree to find out the secrets of their success and use those secrets to write a philosophy of personal achievement that would be made available to the average person. Napoleon Hill accepted the offer, and over the next twenty years he devoted himself to researching why certain people succeed, including in-depth interviews with one hundred of the most creative and successful self-made multimillionaires in America, as well as details provided by 16,000 individuals who completed a psychological profile questionnaire administered by Hill. It was from this extraordinary database, plus Hill’s extensive studies in psychology, philosophy, and human motivation, that he developed his sixteen Principles of Success. In 1928 he published the results in an eight-volume masterwork entitled Law of Success. It was a runaway bestseller. Nine years later, Napoleon Hill adapted those sixteen principles into a more focused and concise format under the title Think and Grow Rich. By that time he had spent twenty-nine years immersed in learning about and analyzing success. The number of people who had submitted psychological profiles to him exceeded 25,000, and Hill’s personal interviews and analyses had grown to more than 500 of the most famous entrepreneurs, inventors, businessmen, industrialists, politicians, and leaders of every kind. ...
Hill Napoleon - PMA Science of Successurn:md5:04ece3c80a7be4298d8306400ebc34b12012-06-03T13:16:00+01:002023-04-24T13:39:50+01:00balderHill NapoleonCroissance personnelle

EDITORS' NOTE. LAW OF SUCCESS IS COMPRISED OF THE KEY PRINCIPLES THAT FORM the foundation of Napoleon Hill's philosophy of personal achievement. The genesis of the principles explored in Law of Success date from the day in I908 when Napoleon Hill was assigned to write a magazine profile on steel baron and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. During their interview Carnegie became so impressed with the young writer that what was to have been a brief interview stretched into a three-day marathon. It concluded with Carnegie offering to introduce Napoleon Hill to the most powerful men of the day in order that Hill could learn from each of them the secrets of their success. It was Carnegie's vision that, in so doing, Hill would be able to formulate a philosophy that could be used by anyone to help themselves create their own success and realize their dreams. As Napoleon Hill pursued his mission, he wrote thousands of articles and profiles, launched his own magazines, developed homestudy courses, started training centers, and opened a business college all inspired by his evolving philosophy. He also created a lecture series that brought him wide recognition as an inspiring public speaker on the subject of success and personal achievement. Through it all, Napoleon Hill was constantly testing and modifying his theories until they became refined into a set of specific principles that together formed the cohesive philosophy Andrew Carnegie had envisioned. In 1927 Napoleon Hill finally assembled what would become the first edition of Law oj Success. Then, in what proved to be a brilliant marketing concept, his publisher chose to release it not as a single book but as a set of eight volumes. The entire collection was an immediate and astounding success. In its first edition Law oj Success presented fifteen principles. In later editions the number was expanded to sixteen as Hill came to believe that The Master Mind, which had been part of the introduction to the first edition, was in fact a separate principle unto itsel£ Later still, he concluded that there was another key principle that in effect unified the others. This newly recognized principle he termed Cosmic Habitforce, which, when he began working with W. Clement Stone, was also referred to as the Universal Law. Over the years there have been at least five authorized editions that revised or added material, and in its various forms the book has been reprinted more than fifty times. This newly revised and updated twenty-first-century edition is the first to include all seventeen principles. In preparing this edition of Law oj Success] the editors have attempted to allow Hill to be as modern an author as if he were still among us, and we have treated the text as we would the text of a living author. When we encountered what modern grammarians would consider run-on sentences, outdated punctuation, or other matters of form, we opted for contemporary usage. If something was obscure or misleading because the author's language was idiosyncratic or archaic, or when it might be construed as out of step with modern thinking, minor alterations were made. A more challenging issue was the question of how to update the actual content of the book. In carefully reviewing the original text, it became clear that the answer was not to simply replace the examples cited by Hill with similar stories about contemporary people. The anecdotes and examples used by Napoleon Hill were so integral to the point being made or the principle being discussed that to replace them just for the sake of having a more contemporary name would do nothing to make it better. The editors concluded that the best course was to instead augment with additional stories that would serve as confirmation that the Law of Success is a living philosophy. The additional examples have been judiciously inserted as reminders that the principles upon which Law oj Success is based were relevant when the first book was published in 1928, they were still applicable seventy-five years later in 2003, and they will no doubt continue to be relevant and applicable for at least the next seventy-five years. In addition to contemporary examples, where the editors felt it would be of interest to the reader, we have also included marginal notes that provide background information, historical context, and, where applicable, we have suggested books that complement various aspects of Napoleon Hill's philosophy. All marginal commentary in these volumes is set off in a different font and style. You will also notice that sometimes Law of Success is italicized in the text and at other times it is not. The italicized usage is in reference to the book; unitalicized, it is a general reference to the concept and its principles. As you read this edition of Law oj Success you will find that certain key commentaries and references that appear early in the book are also repeated in later chapters. That is intentional. When this updated edition was first published in 2003 as four separate leatherbound collector's volumes, the key commentaries were included where relevant in each book for the benefit of readers who may not have been reading all four volumes consecutively. And because of their relevance to the lessons in which each appears, when this edition combining all seventeen lessons into one volume was being assembled, the decision was made to maintain the commentaries as they were. Throughout the preparation of the revised editions, the editors have enjoyed the cooperation of the Napoleon Hill Foundation and the Napoleon Hill World Learning Center. With their assistance we have drawn upon the previous editions of the work, as well as on other books and materials written by Napoleon Hill, in order to incorporate the final evolution of his philosophy and' thereby present the most comprehensive edition of Law oj Success.
