How I Entered Nutritional Psychiatry. Since you do not know me, let me take a few moments to introduce myself, sketch my background, and tell you how I came to enter the field of nutritional psychiatry, which is the subject of this book. This will, I hope, give you some basis for judging the validity of the rather unorthodox views I champion. First let me say that I consider myself very much a part of the medical establishment. After receiving my B.S. and M.D. degrees at Duke University, I completed a rotating internship at the University of Chicago and an internship in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Minnesota. This was followed by a residency in internal medicine at the Veterans Administration Hospital associated with Vanderbilt University, and then a three-year psychiatric residency at the University of Illinois and its affiliated V.A. hospital.
